Hole in Sail
Vic Roberts

Tonight was my first sail of the season, and I found a small hole in the sail, about 1 inch by 1 1/2 inches, near the luff and about 1/3 of the way up. It may have been caused by a mouse but there is no other mouse evidence.

I assume I can have a patch sewn over the hole. There is a shop near us that does that type of repair.

If only 1x1 and in the low load area of the luff you could put an insignia sticky patch on each side about 3” x 3”.   The sail shop near you should have this and I’m sure would sell a piece for cheap.

Sewing on a patch is great and preferred, but not always needed. This sticky patch is the same material the class logo and #’s are cut from. They last the life of the sail.

Doug,

Thanks.  I bought some InCom SailPatch sail repair tape from Defender and plan to place a piece over the hole on each side of the sail.

Depending how it works, I may send the sail to you over the winter for a more permanent repair.
