Rudder For Sale
Author Last Post

Speaking of rudder repair, mine seems to be ‘groaning’ the last several times I have been out.  Anyone have any thoughts, even ones I rather not hear ?

I have a rudder that needs some attention. Not sure if it needs to be rebuilt, but appears to be de-laminating.

Do you know of anyone in the Rhode Island area familiar with rudder repair on the Ensign?

Silicon bronze is the absolute perfect solution for marine rudders.

Don't throw old rudders away! The shaft can be reused and it's valuable.

The Technical and Ensigns Forever Committees have joined forces to evaluate the use of materials other than the 1960's original materials, and hopefully will have a recommendation for the Rules Committee soon.

IMO, Coosa should explicitly be recommended for the main bulkhead, rudders and mast step supports. PVC honeycomb for the cabin interior. These materials do not provide a competitive advantage, yet provide for longevity through protection against rot and water absorption.

My $.02

Just go look up the price of the bronze shaft. Not only is the bronze far superior to the stainless steel replacement. It will last ten times as long in salt water. Proper bronze for salt water use costs a fortune.  These bronze shafted rudders deserve to be rebuilt not tossed in a dumpster

Hi-

Our little club in San Diego is definitely interested in your rudder!  Where are you located so that we can estimate shipping costs.

Feel free to phone or text me at 617 281-4279 or email me directly at pfeldon@aol.com

That will make great wall hanger somewhere! And a reminder that the time for wooden rudders has past.

I replaced the rudder on #1029 with an Ensign Spars new rudder.

I have the original rudder (fiberglass over mahogany) for sale: $100 + shipping costs. Rudder needs to be rebuilt. Rudder and shipping box weighs 52 pounds.
