Cockpit Cover Recommendations

Ok, I'm sold on the Sailors' Tailor cover.

Thank you all for the responses!

My Sailors' Tailor  cover (and the ensign) survived HURRICANE ISAIAS (maxed out with 70 knot gusts in our harbor.) No damage to the cover except we did lose one of the zipper pulls.  It is a great cover. Also have a bow bag from them for the jib.

So, I came up with a unique cockpit cover. I built a wooden boom stand that has a short arm that extends the boom out beyond the aft cockpit. Then I ordered a heavy duty white tarp from Covers for

All. Cut rub rail hooks from CVC pipe. My total investment was $130 and that was for the tarp. I built the stand from scrap. The tarp completely covers the cockpit, including all coaming boards and winches. Best part is, it is open front and back for maximum air flow. I have yet to come to my boat and find more than 2 quarts of water in the bilge. And yes, my main sail is rolled up under the tarp ready to hoist. Would totally share drawings and stand plans. Since taking this picture, I have turned my boat around in the slip. Makes it real easy to set the boom stand and cover on the dock while racing. Ron

We’ve used one for three seasons and are generally satisfied. Began to have some wear in the area of the jib winches, cutting through the inside fabric, but not through the reinforcement between inner and outer layers. We now put covers on the winches, and they wear instead of the cockpit cover. Much cheaper to replace if needed. A few other wear spots where the cover rubs against a block or other protrusion. Fabric patches on the inside have fixed minor holes.

I would buy one again.

JP,
I bought a Sailors Tailor cover for my Ensign two year ago.  So far it has worked quite well. I dont see any signs of wear or problems with seams or zippers. The mast end of the cover is long and extends up the mast.  I cant get the tie tight enough to keep it from sliding down toward the boom, so take a small amt of tape to hold it up each time I put it on.  That works well.  Overall I have no complaints.

Hi All, new Ensign owner here.

I'm looking for a new cockpit cover. Sailors' Tailor came up in previous forum posts. Does anyone have any experience with them good or bad?

Any other recommendations are also appreciated.

Thank you!
