Hello everyone,
I'm on my second season with my Ensign and the family has been having a great time with it. This was a boat that I bought cheap before the previous owner was going to trash it because it was going to need a new rudder. I was able to have the boat transported to my house so I can get a little extra work done before next season. If you look at the picture below, you will see all the hairline cracks in the gelcoat. Unfortunately the whole hull is like this. I did a small test today where I sanded a small area with 120 which made the gelcoat much smoother than the rest of the hull. I don't really even feel the cracks on my fingernails except the larger ones. I'm not looking for a major project but part of me wants to do my best with sanding it down a bit and then give it a few coats of a two part white paint just to make it look a little better.
I'm just a day sailor and I'm not really looking for a show piece. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on the best way to approach this with a "best effort" cleanup without removing the existing gelcoat?
Thanks in advanced!
Bob
