The Ensign Class has over two thousand boats, spread across eighteen states, and fifty two cities. To support and unify the class, five geographic regions were formed, two of which (Region II and III) merged together, after it was realized the fleets in those two regions were close enough to be administered as one.

Every year, each region holds a Regional Championship. It is the duty of the Regional Commander to assign  a team and a host club to organize this regatta, and its location usually changes from year to year. Winning a Regional Championship is quite an accomplishment, and doing so entitles the winner's main sail to sport three red chevrons. In addition to the competition, it is a great time to re-unite with old friends, to share food, drink, conversation, and stories...
