Happy New Year!!  Ensign Sailors

2016 has come to an end, with many of our boats on the hard for a little winter’s rest and repair. I hope all of you have had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas with your family and friends. We can now look forward to starting an exciting new year of Ensign Sailing for 2017. We have many wonderful events scheduled for 2017 starting with the Ensign Mid Winters being held at Lake Murray and hosted by Fleet 83. Fran, Tommy and their group will put on a great event. The event will start with the ECA Winter Annual Membership Meeting on March 23, and racing to follow March 24 – 26.  Look for more info on the Mid Winters in the coming months.

Allan Terhune has arranged to have the Region I Championship in conjunction with the NOODS Regatta May 5 -7 at Annapolis, MD. Bill Murphey and Allan have also arranged to have the Atlantic Coast Championship return to Newport, RI on July 8 – 9. These are very well run events at great venues, and should not be missed.

The 2017 Ensign Nationals will be returning to Cedarville, MI and the Les Cheneaux Islands in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Joel Birkmeir and Fleet 31 will put on a great event. There isn’t anything quite like UP hospitality; it will be something you will never forget.

There are many events you can schedule to attend, Regionals events at different regions around the US, and the Nationals this year in Michigan. Check the Ensign Class Website, and yearbook, and newsletters for locations and dates Get out and meet many of your fellow Ensign Class members. They are all great people. You will make many friends for life.

On behalf of the ECA Board I would like to wish all of you a great and safe 2017 sailing season. There isn’t anything like sailing an Ensign. It is a great little boat.

Happy Sailing,

 Mike LaHaye
